25 Ideas for Action: Iran Mobilization

• Invite members of Congress to campus to talk about Iran.

• Organize regular district-office meetings with the local member of Congress to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the status of current legislation.

• Organize a legislative mission to Washington D.C. to lobby members of Congress

• Organize a letter-writing campaign to congressional offices.

• Phone bank congressional offices about current legislation focusing on Iran.

• Encourage pro-Israel activists to visit the district office of their hometown member of Congress during district work periods. 

• Where appropriate, organize a trip to the state capitol to lobby legislators to divest of state pension funds from companies doing business in Iran’s energy sector.

• Circulate a petition to stop Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons, and present it to student government officials and to your local members of Congress.

• Make presentations in political science and international affairs classes explaining why it is in America’s interest to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. 

• Encourage the leadership of College Democrats and College Republicans to sign a joint statement condemning Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, and publish it in campus or community newspapers.

• Host educational forums for religious organizations, fraternities, and sororities about the Iranian nuclear threat, and help them contact their members of Congress to express their support for related legislation.

• Host forums for business and finance fraternities to discuss Iran sanctions, divestment efforts, and terror-free investment options. 

• Host a student leadership dinner to brainstorm ways campus groups can help stop Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, then circulate an action plan as follow-up.

• Distribute information on the Iranian threat using Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking tools.

• Publish newspaper articles and op-eds about the Iranian nuclear threat in campus, local, and Jewish newspapers. 

• Encourage campus editorial boards to publish editorials condemning Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and sponsorship of terrorism. 

• Host a forum with College Democrats and College Republicans on the danger of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and invite local and state party officials to attend.

• Encourage supportive campus bloggers to write about the issue. 

• Pass student government resolutions condemning Iran’s nuclear program.

• Publish joint-statements from the student liaisons for the ’08 presidential campaigns condemning Iran’s nuclear program.

• Encourage faculty statements about the threat of Iran’s nuclear program. 

• Organize a series of internal education seminars about Iran for the core group of pro-Israel, political activists.

• Use online discussion forums for incoming freshmen as an avenue for engaging politically interested freshmen on the Iranian nuclear threat.

• Engage local high-school youth groups to help stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

• Engage local Jewish Day Schools about Iran’s nuclear program, and mobilize those high school students for legislative impact.
