Twelve members of the House have signed a letter to World Bank President Robert Zoellick urging him to reject any loan or grant requests for Iran or for any company operating in Iran. Noting Iran’s extensive history of repression and terrorism, the letter states, “One has to wonder why a country that exports 2.6 million barrels of oil per day needs World Bank development assistance.” The letter also notes that the bank’s policies are inconsistent with recent U.N. Security Council resolutions sanctioning Iran as well as the policies of Britain, France and Germany.
