

Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) brought delegates to their feet with rousing speeches to open AIPAC's largest ever National Summit in Chicago. The opening session also featured an address from Israeli President Shimon Peres, via satellite. More than one dozen bipartisan members of Congress from across the Midwest spoke to delegates during the first evening's Gala Dinner, where they were honored for their work on behalf of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.

Just one week before the presidential elections, the premier foreign policy retreat featured briefings by top foreign policy advisors to both presidential campaigns—Dr. Susan Rice for the Obama campaign and Amb. Richard Williamson for the McCain campaign. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke of his commitment to protecting Israel's security, before famed human rights activist Natan Sharansky and long-time Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley closed out the 2008 AIPAC National Summit.
